Sunday was the first day I missed writing since I began this latest Ultimate Blog Challenge. I was attending the Super Elite Football Camp, held in our area in Aurora, Ontario, with my youngest son Kieran who is participating in this 8 week football skills camp.  This camp has run for a several years.  It was started by a former CFL player turned high school phys ed teacher Nick Burns.  He created the camp based on his experience participating in a football camp run by former CFLers Mike “Pinball” Clemons and Duane Forde.  He wanted to give back to the community and inspire new generations of youth to love the game of football as much as he does.

Kieran has loved football since his older brother began playing in high school.  He has played in a house league run by the local Kinsmen Club and is now playing rep ball with the local Wolverines.  He is passionate about his sport and was excited to find an opportunity to improve his skill level.

Super Elite Football Camp is coached by former and present CFL players. Their knowledge is current and their enthusiasm for working with the kids is undeniable.

To me, football is so much about mental toughness, it’s digging deep, it’s doing whatever you need to do to help a team win and that comes in a lot of shapes and forms. — Tom Brady

Kieran’s position is defensive back and he is working with Hugo Lopez.  Hugo is a DB for the Ottawa Redblacks.  Hugo was amazing with the kids showing both enthusiasm and patience.  He broke down each drill by showing each step to the kids before they were asked to complete the drill. He gave feedback and praise as well as constructive criticism.  All of the kids responded well to him although it was hard to tell at times due to the intensive nature of the workout.

Kieran was happy but exhausted after the hour and half of non-stop conditioning and drills (with frequent water breaks included).  He is very much looking forward to the next seven weeks of Sundays!
